Frequently Asked Questions

Who owns EMedHome.com?
EMedHome.com is a privately held entity that was created by a practicing Emergency Physician, Rick Nunez, MD. EMedHome.com is not owned in whole or in part by any outside agency or commercial firm. Although EMedHome.com works with several Emergency Medicine organizations and Residency Programs to provide accurate, relevant clinical content, no such organization has controlling input or a formal affiliation with the website. You can be sure that there are no hidden commercial or political influences in our content.
Who accredits the CME on EMedHome.com?
EMedHome.com is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
How can I use podcasts, media files, and RSS feeds?
A great deal of our content is available as downloadable media files, podcasts, and subscription RSS feeds. For detailed information, please visit our Help with EMedHome.com Podcasts and RSS Feeds section.
Does a subscription to EMedHome.com include CME credit, or is there an additional charge?
A subscription to EMedHome.com includes access to all of our content and all CME credit, with the exception of the LLSA CME Programs which requires a separate purchase. A subscription to EMedHome.com includes CME credit from the bimonthly feature article series and the On-Line EM Lectures.
Why am I unable to log-in?
There are three possible issues: (1) Logging-in to EMedHome.com content requires a subscription. If you have an active subscription and you are still unable to log-in, it means that you are using an incorrect email address/password combination. The email address is the one you entered into the website database. If you have changed email addresses and not updated your profile, then you must use your old email address. If you do not recall the email address used for your CME account registration or you have forgotten your password, feel free to use the "contact us" link on top of this page and we will respond within one business day. (2) In addition, the log-in function requires that your computer has cookies enabled. If your settings prevent the use of cookies, then you will have difficulty logging-in. (3) Finally, if your computer is behind a firewall (e.g., a PC in the ED as part of a hospital network), then the firewall settings may be preventing you from logging-in. Try another PC (e.g. one at home) to see if you can successfully log-in.
Why am I unable to retrieve my password?
If you are not receiving your password with the automated password retrieval function, it likely means that you are not entering the email address that we have on file for you. The email address to which your password is sent is the one that you entered into the website database. If you have changed email addresses and not updated your profile, then you must use your old email address. If you do not recall the email address used for your CME account, feel free to use the "contact us" link on top of this page and we will respond within one business day.
Why am I unable to view the On-Line EM Lectures?
The On-Line lectures are shown in flash format. Macromedia flash player is required to view the lectures. The majority of web browsers come with macromedia flash installed. However, if you need the flash viewer, simply click here to download it for free.

Also please note that several "internet security"-type programs (e.g. Norton Security) and some firewalls will prevent downloading of the lecture as they interpret this as an intrusion on your PC. In order to view a lecture, you will need to either disable the security program or allow access by EMedHome.com

Why am I unable to view the PDF files on EMedHome.com?
Several sections of EMedHome.com contain files in PDF format, including the PDF database section and the LLSA CME Program. Adobe reader version 6.0 or later is required to properly view these files. If you do not have a recent version of adobe reader installed on your computer, you may download it for free simply by clicking here.
Why am I unable to download some lectures to my computer?
Not all On-Line EM lectures are available for download due to restrictions requested by the speaker. If a lecture is available for download, you will see the appropriate links on the right-hand side of the individual lecture page enabling you to do so.
How can I contribute to EMedHome.com?
EMedHome.com welcomes clinicians to submit interesting images from their practice to be used as the subject of our weekly case or for posting in the Images in EM section. Please make sure that the images are yours (e.g. you took the photos yourself) and are not subject to any copyright restrictions (e.g. not taken from another source). Simply email the images along with a brief description of the case and follow-up to cases@EMedHome.com. We will be happy to list credit your name as the source of the images. If you would prefer to put the images on a CD and mail them to us, our address is EMedHome.com, P.O. Box 195, Hanover, MA, 02339
I have subscribed to the Question of the Day, but I do not receive it. Why?
The Question of the Day is sent to the email address that has been entered into our database. Please go to the "Edit Account" link of the "Manage Account" section to make sure the proper email address is entered.

If the proper email address is entered, then the Question of the Day is being sent each morning, but a spam filter is preventing you from getting it. This can happen because your (1) ISP determines that the Question of the Day is spam, and blocks it from reaching you (2) you have a spam filter that requires a manual response to allow it to pass through, which will not occur because the Question of the Day function is an automated program or (3) the settings on your email program are such that the Question of the Day is blocked.

I am a Physician's Assistant/Nurse Practitioner. May I participate in the EMedHome.com CME activities?

If I complete the EMedHome.com LLSA CME Program, do I still have to take the ABEM LLSA exam on the ABEM website to maintain my certification?
Yes. EMedHome.com is not associated with the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Our LLSA CME Program serves to prepare you for the annual LLSA exam and allows you to earn CME credit for your effort, something that ABEM does not do as it does not offer CME credit.

After you complete a CME activity on EMedHome.com, you can immediately print/download your CME certificate. You may return to the CME Tracker at any time to see a list of all of your completed CME activities and print/download your CME certificates. If you are not a subscriber to EMedHome.com, but did earn CME credits before the transition to the subscription service, simply use your CME log-in email address/password to go to the CME tracker page to obtain your CME certificates.
I tried to go to EMedHome.com and the website was unavailable. What does this mean?
Websites can be unavailable for any of a number of reasons. Any interruption in internet traffic between your PC and the EMedHome.com server can prevent you from viewing the website. On occasion, the EMedHome.com server will malfunction. However, such occurrences are exceedingly rare and are short-lived. For how long do the LLSA CME Programs remain available for CME credit?

The CME Program remains available for completion until the end of the second year following the posting of the LLSA exam on the ABEM website (e.g. the 2004 edition remains available for completion until the end of 2006).
I signed up for the EMedHome.com LLSA CME Program and then successfully completed the LLSA exam on the ABEM website. How come I did not get a CME certificate from EMedHome.com?
Starting with the 2006 edition of the EMedHome.com LLSA CME Program, physicians have the option of obtaining their CME credit simply by completing the ABEM LLSA exam. You must sign up for the LLSA CME Program, which contains material to help you prepare for the LLSA exam. When you are ready, go to the ABEM website to complete the LLSA exam. Upon successful completion, choose the option to have your LLSA certificate forwarded by email to CME@EMedHome.com. This option is found on the ABEM website by clicking on the "Email Certificate" link which immediately appears upon completing the LLSA exam.

The "Email Certificate" link may be found upon your return to the ABEM website by logging-in to the EMCC area and going to the https://www.abem.org/emcc/hr/user/learning_history.aspx link. Choose the LLSA by year, and click on "Score Report" to get to the "Email Certificate" link.

After you have forwarded your certificate to EMedHome.com, you may return to the EMedHome.com LLSA CME Program to complete the evaluation survey and obtain your CME certificate. Please allow one business day for us to receive your LLSA certificate from ABEM.

How can my conference's lectures appear on EMedHome.com?
EMedHome.com is always interested in making valuable clinical content available to the Emergency Medicine community. Our goal is to place lectures from the best EM conferences on the web and make them available for CME credit. This offers the conference organizers significant exposure for their next conference, and also affords significant exposure for the speakers. If you would like to discuss placing your lectures on EMedHome.com, please do not hesitate to email us at "lectures@EMedHome.com" for details.
Can I renew my subscription before my expiration date?
