In 1999, online medical education was dominated by large, multi-specialty web portals. However, these websites did not contain sections for Emergency Medicine, instead catering to the specialties that could provide significant advertising revenue from pharmaceutical companies. In February of 2000, EMedHome.com was launched to leverage the latest web-based technology to provide the Emergency Medicine community with an independent, premier online educational resource.
In many ways, EMedHome was the precursor to the current FOAMED movement. From 2000 - 2005, EMedHome did not charge for access and all content was available for free. However, a decision was made in 2005 to charge a very nominal subscription fee in order to be able to offer each subscriber hundreds of category 1 CME credits, expand the educational offerings on the site, and adopt the latest technologies to provide a more effective user experience (HD video lectures, etc). Our goal is to provide clinical resources to help you with every shift. The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) has accredited EMedHome.com as a provider of CME for Physicians. EMedHome.com currently holds accreditation with commendation.
